One Barrier I have faced educationally is when I transferred from Cardiff School district to Vista school district and moving houses. One reason for this being a barrier is because it was a new school and it was a transition from elementary to Middle school, and subjects were taught differently by the teachers and school schedules were different. For example, the biggest barrier I faced in the whole situation was my peers, When I went to Washington Middle School (now Vida) ninety percent of the kids there were rude, poorly educated, and didn’t pay attention in school, and it was hard to keep a conversation with them because they didn’t know much, I was unable to receive good peer reviews on work and would get little to no help from peers because most of them didn’t have enough education to be able to help me with work, let alone do their own work correctly. It was also hard to pay attention during school because a lot of the students had no respect for the teachers, a student cursing at a teacher in one of my classes happened at least once a month if not more, it was tough to concentrate because the other students would be loud, and disruptive during class, it wasn’t the best learning environment for me. After a couple years there I realized that it was a setback in my education and that made me wonder if I would have accomplished more if I did not move, or if I went to Madison or Roosevelt instead of Washington.

One of my talents is being good at debating topics or subjects pretty well. I’ve been good at arguing almost anything for a about three years. I usually do it with people who get upset about something I say or my parent’s friends when they come to our house. Being able to win an argument is very easy for me because all you need to do is have more facts about the certain thing you are talking about than the other person or people, and since I enjoy researching past and present events I have a good amount of knowledge on what happens in the world and why or how it happens. My parents and most of their friends tell me that I should be a lawyer because of how much I like to argue and be competitive always trying to win. I don’t really know why I started doing this, my knowledge on past events has grown over the three years and I like to look at news reports and articles as they have a lot of information. I would say this talent comes both naturally and takes some work, because I like to win arguments but also you need to have knowledge on the topic to be able to win by having more facts to say and silence the other person’s argument. Overall, I would say I am naturally good at arguing and debating people mostly on politics and past events or present world events such as the Syria issues happening today.

To express my creative side I try to be a problem solver when there is something in the way of progress. If it is in school like during a group project or group work, I will try to solve the problem we are stuck with and I can usually get us around the barrier. And if my first idea does not work, which sometimes it doesn’t, I keep thinking of ways to resolve the issue or issues that we have. For example one time I solved a problem was when we wouldn’t have enough room on our poster for all the information so we had to kind of integrate some of the topics together and create a two for one area on the poster. I also problem solve at my house when I am alone. For example, one time the internet was not working right for my PC so i tried restarting the router and I started working for about 10 minutes and then it started getting spotty connection, eventually I switched the ethernet connections around a couple of times and it finally started to work. I try my best to be a good and efficient problem solver in almost every situation at home, at school, or anywhere. I like to solve problems for myself because it makes me feel self sufficient and a productive member of the society. I think that others also like that I enjoy solving problems because they would rather not deal with the problems themselves if someone else is willing to do it.

I would define my identity a white/mexican male and someone who cares about their family and friends. Race and ethnicity take a small role in my identity as I am proud to me mexican american and proud to be a male. The factors that influenced me the most are my parents, grandparents, and generally what i’ve seen and experienced in my lifetime. My grandparents influence me greatly because the have had great success in their lives and I would like to eventually have the same success they have. My parents influenced me from teaching me things to be right from wrong and what to do in certain situations. I think that growing up in Encinitas shaped my identity a lot with the people i was around and how everyone was so calm and independant, all the neighborhood kids would go out in the morning, and would have to be back by a certain time at night, I think it made me more independent in a way. My religion has made me believe that god has a plan for everyone and we just have to do the work to get there. I am most proud to be American and a part of the country no matter what. What makes me unique is that I am a good person that is very nice, respectful, and logical.
